OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENS IN 2011-2012
KEYSTONE CLUB AT SHS

Keystone Clubs are chartered leadership and service clubs for students ages 14-18. Keystoners elect officers and implement activities in six areas: service to Club and community, character and leadership development, education and career exploration, unity, free enterprise and social recreation.

All our Clubs and Teen Programs follow the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth Development Strategy. This strategy is research-based and, even better, proven over Boys & Girls Clubs 100 year history to help kids succeed regardless of their circumstances.

The Youth Development Strategy guides us to design every activity, event and program to increase each child's sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. To structure our Club programs we utilize five core program areas listed below. We try to ensure each Club member gets a balanced diet of these program areas every week. In general, during a 17 hour Club week, each member will participate in one hour of Character & Leadership Development, one to two hours of Health & Life Skills, one to two hours of Arts, three to four hours of Fitness & Recreation and up to 10 hours of Education & Career Development.

Character & Leadership Development
Programs in Character and Leadership Development empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others’ cultural identities.

Education & Career Development
Programs in Education and Career Development enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.

Health & Life Skills
Programs in Health and Life Skills develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

The Arts
Programs in The Arts enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.

Sports, Fitness & Recreation
Programs in Sports, Fitness and Recreation develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.
